One of the most-awaited films in Tamil this year, Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal, hit the screens today in around 500 theatres in Tamil Nadu. The movie directed by Vignesh Shivan is the fifth biggest Tamil release in 2022, taking into consideration the number of theatres which screened the movie in the state.
Nayanthara, Samantha and Vijay Sethupathi coming together has been considered as the film's USP ever since the project was announced. The inclusion of Anirudh as its music director has been another reason for film lovers to look forward to the movie.
The rom-com has opened to mixed reviews from critics and audiences. The performances of the lead cast, apart from a few one-liners of Redin Kingsley and Anirudh's background score have been receiving praise, though. The movie marks the third collaboration between Vignesh and Anirudh.
Prabhu, Kala Master, Seema, Sreesanth and Lollu Sabha Maaran play significant characters in the project which has editing by Sreekar Prasad and cinematography by SR Kathir and Vijay Kartik Kannan. Trisha and Nayanthara were initially considered to play female leads in the movie. But the makers chose Samantha after the former reportedly cited date issues for not being a part of the film.
For those looking forward to Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal online, here's the good news. Disney+ Hotstar has bagged its digital rights. The film is expected to stream on the platform from May 27. An official announcement is awaited on the date, though.
Two films of Nayanthara, Netrikann and Mookuthi Amman, had direct release on Disney+ Hotstar earlier. While the former released in August last year, the latter dropped on the platform in November 2020 as a Deepavali special movie. Annabelle Sethupathi was Vijay Sethupathi's first release on Disney+ Hotstar.
