In the latest announcement of JioHotstar's south content slate, a new Vijay Sethupathi-starrer series as announced. The title of series is Kaattan and is directed by filmmaker Manikandan, making his foray into the OTT space. While a release date for Kaattan is yet to be announced, it will be available via OTTplay Premium once it drops on JioHotstar.
Kaattan: Vijay Sethupathi to headline rural action- drama series
Actor Vijay Sethupathi, who was recently seen in Thalaivan Thalaivii, will be headlining an upcoming Tamil web series. It is titled Kaattan and a teaser was unveiled at the recent JioHotstar’s South Unbound event that was held to announce the south content slate. Kaattan is expected to be a rural action-drama series.
The teaser shows Vijay Sethupathi in what looks like a rural festival background as he throws rocks on a group of people, making them to go after him. Wielding a machete, he walks towards a man who is visibly shaken. Vijay Sethupathi then goes to attack him with the weapon. The series is directed by filmmaker Manikandan who has earlier made critically acclaimed films like Kaaka Muttai and Kadaisi Vivasayi. Kaattan marks Vijay Sethupathi's third collaboration with Manikandan after Aandavan Kattalai and Kadaisi Vivasayi.
What did Vijay Sethupathi say about Kaattan?
Speaking about the show, Vijay Sethupathi, who has also produced it, said, "It is written by my friend Manikandan who has directed the show along with one called Ajith from Kerala. The series is about philosophy of life, and searching its purpose. It is a beautiful experience." He also added that Manikandan has not made any action films so far, and this will be his first. “He wrote six pages and gave it to be first. I felt healed when I read it."
Kaattan is expected to stream on JioHotstar sometime in 2026. Besides this, the platform also unveiled its slate for Telugu and Malayalam as well.
