On Friday, March 17th, we had reported that, as per reliable trade sources online, R. Chandru's Kabzaa was estimated to collect approximately Rs. 10 crores on the first day of its release. These were early estimates and were subject to change with more accurate figures expected to arrive the subsequent day.

And on cue, the Day #1 box office figures of Kabzaa have arrived and the final estimates are not far off from the initial ones as the film, reportedly, manages to collect a little over Rs. 11 crores on the opening day. The figures revealed are the Net collections and the gross value could be expected to be slightly higher.

The Kannada version of Kabzaa is said to have made the biggest contribution with Rs. 8 crores with the Telugu and Hindi dubbed versions yielding Rs. 1.5 crores and Rs. 1.2 crores respectively. Tamil and Malayalam dubbed releases are yet to take off and have managed to earn Rs. 0.25 crores and Rs. 0.15 crores respectively.

As a result of these numbers, Kabzaa has scored the best box office opening for a Kannada film thus far in 2023. Previously, the Challenging Star Darshan starrer Kranti had collected approx. Rs. 9.8 crores Day #1 of its release.

However, coming back to Kabzaa, one would assert that R. Chandru's much-awaited gangster epic held bigger box-office potential and was expected to collect somewhere close to Rs. 20 crores on the opening day. Though the makers and a few of the ardent fans do claim that the film has taken off with flying colours, there's no denying that the general word-of-mouth is negative with the most common verdict being that Kabzaa, at its best, looks like a copy of the KGF films.

One also encounters reports of the film collecting somewhere close to Rs. 26 crores on social media. However, with most theatrical shows not running to full capacity and the word-of-mouth publicity, too, slowly playing its part, one could declare that the Rs. 26 crore estimates seem dubious and fake. The only Kannada film to cross the Rs. 25 crore mark to date is KGF 2 (in gross value) and it would be far-fetched at the moment to think that Kabzaa has generated better numbers.

If the popular trade sites are to be believed, Kabzaa is looking at a Rs. 25 crores to Rs. 30 crores opening weekend with Day #2 expected to fetch close to Rs. 8 crores.
