Those awaiting the release of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Kaduva in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada will have to wait a day longer. The makers of the ‘mass’ action entertainer revealed that while the Malayalam film will hit theatres on July 7, the other language versions will release only on July 8.
The team had previously announced that all versions of the movie will hit theatres on June 30, but this had to be deferred after the movie ran into trouble with the CBFC. Prithviraj said that the makers weren’t aware of the censor board’s protocols of screening a film that had faced legal troubles and that’s what had caused the delay.
The movie, which is 154 minutes long, had passed the censors on Tuesday and received a U/A certification. The delay has also caused the other language versions of the film to be pushed by a day to July 8.
Meanwhile, Prithviraj, in a recent press meet in Kochi, had said that he and his team will now be keen to release their films in all five languages. Even when the movie is sold to OTTs, having other versions help the makers in getting a better deal. This is also the first theatrical release that the actor has aggressively promoted across all four South states as well as in Dubai. He had said that for his next release, he would even be visiting Mumbai with his film.
Considering the acceptance that his previous film Jana Gana Mana received after its OTT release in June, Prithviraj will be hoping for the same with Kaduva. The film also caters to the masses as it’s an old-school action entertainer, which also has Vivek Oberoi and Samyuktha Menon – both of whom are familiar faces in other languages as well.
The movie revolves around an ego tussle between a wealthy rubber planter named Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachan and a top police officer, essayed by Vivek, and how their clash gets blown out of proportion with neither willing to compromise.
