Mammootty fans are counting down the days to the megastar’s much-awaited Malayalam film Kalamkaval’s release on December 5, 2025. During the pre-release event, Mammootty gave more insights into his character, which he already said is not a ‘good soul’. Mammootty, who has played several grey-shaded roles in his illustrious career, said that audiences may not like his role in Kalamkaval, but he makes a promise to the audiences.
The upcoming Malayalam film Kalamkaval will see Mammootty in yet another negative role. Talking more about his character, Mammootty said, “It would be difficult for you to like this character, but this character would stay with you even after you leave the cinema.”
The legendary Malayalam actor said that the film is not a challenge, but the character is the most challenging.
There were earlier reports that Mammootty would be playing the character of serial killer Cyanide Mohan, but Kalamkaval director Jithin K Jose refused to confirm this, stating that the role will have shades of many real-life characters and incidents.

Malayalam actor Vinayakan plays the other lead role of a cop in the upcoming movie, along with Gibin Gopinath who was last seen in Pranav Mohanlal’s horror thriller movie Dies Irae . Director Jithin K Jose, who previously penned Dulquer Salmaan’s Kurup, has also written Kalamkaval. Notably, Kurup is based on one of the most notorious fugitives in Kerala - Sukumara Kurup.
There is much anticipation for Kalamkaval, as it marks Mammootty’s return to the big screen after his April 2025 release of Bazooka. Kalamkaval is Mammootty’s third release of the year after Dominic and the Ladies' Purse and Bazooka, both of which opened to mixed reviews. Whether Kalamkaval lives up to the hype remains to be seen. The film was initially slated for release on November 27, but postponed to December 5.
Mammootty, however, fetched the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for Bramayugam, another film that saw him in a gray-shaded role.
