Kalki 2898 AD, Prabhas’ thriller directed by Nag Ashwin, has been in the making for a couple of years now and a major chunk of the shoot is to be completed for it to release in mid 2024. The first glimpse of the film, released at Comic Con 2023, US this year, was widely appreciated. Commemorating Amitabh Bachchan’s birthday, the veteran’s first look was launched today.
Like what we’ve seen of Amitabh Bachchan in the previous posters and the promos, there’s not much one can decode from the look. It’s evident that he’s the messenger through which the world, in which the film is set, will witness sunshine. He’s seen as a sign of hope and a bridge among generations. He’s dressed like a sage, donning a long beard, surrounded by fire and holds a stick.
Enthusiastic Prabhas fans are mighty impressed with the first look poster of Amitabh Bachchan. Going by the responses to the tweets, they’re sure that Big B is a representation of Ashwathama, the mythological character from the Mahabharatha, in the film. Nag Ashwin had once hinted that he wanted to name the film after Bachchan’s character.
Fans are already excited about the confrontation sequence between Big B’s Ashwathama (yet to be announced) and Prabhas’ Kalki. One of the users wondered if the sage could be Dronacharya as well. We will all know about it soon. Kalki 2898 AD will prove that Nag Ashwin is a generational talent, another user commented.
Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani play the female leads in the film in which Kamal Haasan reportedly plays the antagonist. The film also stars Pasupathy, Saswata Chatterjee. C Ashwini Dutt is bankrolling the film under Vyjayanthi Movies, which completes its 50th year in the industry in 2024. Kalki 2898 AD is reportedly being made on a budget that’s well over Rs 500 crore.
