The shooting of Kallapart, starring Arvind Swami and Regina Cassandra, had commenced almost three years ago. Directed by Rajapandi, the film went on floors at a huge set erected in AVM Studios. Billed as a thriller, the movie has Nivas K Prasanna composing music and Arvind Krishna cranking the camera. Saranya Ponvannan and Anandraj will be seen in important roles in the project, which according to the director, is devoid of run-of-the-mill elements.

Rajapandi had also said earlier that Kallapart will have only a few characters and that it revolves around intelligent characters. Regina will be seen essaying the role of a dancer in it, and she was said to have been practising tango and jazz to get into the shoes of the character.

The film was not in the news for a long time until the makers recently announced that Vijay Sethupathi will unveil its first look. The actor was Arvind's co-star in Mani Ratnam's Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. He had also unveiled the trailer of Regina's Soorpanagai recently. The first look of the project has Arvind, dressed in a cool v-neck t-shirt, seen smoking a cigarette even as he unwraps a roller bandage from his left hand. Murugadoss's Vijay-starrer Sarkar was the last Tamil film which had its hero seen smoking a cigarette in its first look. After Health Department of Tamil Nadu issued a notice to the makers, the posters which had the star smoking was removed from the social media accounts of him, the production house and the director.

Kallapart, which has editing by Ilayaraja, features dialogues by Radha Krishnan and action by Miracle Michael. Arvind, who was last seen in the recent multilingual release Thalaivii, has long-delayed projects like Pulanaivu, Vanangamudi, Sathuranga Vettai 2 and Naragasooran in his kitty. Though there were reports of his Naragasooran, directed by Karthick Naren, set for a premiere on an OTT platform in September, there weren't any updates from the team further. He played one of the leads in Karthick's last outing, Project Agni a segment of Navarasa, which is streaming on Netflix now.
