Superstar Kamal Haasan recently attended the San Diego Comic-Con to promote his upcoming movie Kalki 2898 AD. But, he couldn't help but gush about his love for Malayalam cinema. While answering a question about how movies are shot in India, Kamal was quick to give the example of the Malayalam film industry, which is known for its quick turnaround time.
"If it's a complicated, technical issue, we might have to take a break for logistical reasons. Otherwise, I come from an industry called the Malayalam film industry. It's a small industry, where it's a one long-distance run. From beginning to end, we need to fish the shooting in three weeks. So everybody is geared for that. It sometimes exceeds 12 hours of work. I come from that school. We have larger lungs, we run for longer distances," Kamal said in an interview with Collider.
If you didn't know, the Malayalam film industry played a pivotal role in shaping his sensibilities and talents as a young actor and filmmaker. Even before he got his due in Tamil cinema, he got to play leading roles in Malayalam cinema and quench his thirst for artistic pursuits during the early days of his career. In other words, the Malayalam film industry recognised Kamal's talents and accepted him as a leading man way before its neighbouring industries. And Kamal continues to stay loyal to Malayalam cinema, even though he hasn't done a full-fledged movie in the language for a long time. However, he never forgets the industry's contribution to his life and career and never misses an opportunity to pay a compliment to it.
Kamal accompanied the main cast and crew of Kalki 2898 AD, which was temporarily titled Project K, to the comic con. While speaking at the event, Kamal revealed that he will essay the role of an antagonist in the movie. Besides Kamal, the upcoming sci-fi also stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone.
