Kangana Ranaut is awaiting the release of her upcoming film, Emergency. The actress, who will be seen as former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is busy promoting her movie. In one of her recent interviews, the actress spoke about the need for censorship of online content. Kangana believes that the content has become very violent. And she feels it has given rise to objectification of women.

Kangana Ranaut on censorship of online content

Kangana Ranaut spoke to ETimes about the online shows (OTT) and YouTube content. The actress said, "The content has also gotten very violent and appalling, especially with individual viewing where people watch anything with headphones on. This has led to a significant rise of the objectification of women."

That said, Kangana strongly believes, "Online shows should be censored, including YouTube. Many countries have done it and they are atleast better than India. Look a the kind of cases that are happening in India; it's worrisome for everybody."

Kangana on the transformation of women characters

The actress further reflected on the transformation of women characters in cinema. Kangana claimed actresses didn't have much role to play in films around 2006. Citing an example of her films, the actress stated Queen and Tanu Weds Manu started a parallel movement about women empowerment. "A wave of feminism started," added Ranaut.

About her film Emergency

Directed and co-produced by Kangana, Emergency is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 6, 2024. The political drama also features Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, and others. The film's trailer was released on August 14, 2024.
