From crime thriller to horror or romance, take your pick from this week's releases

The first week of November does not have any major titles up for release. Instead, a bunch of smaller films, in genres like crime thriller, horror and romantic drama are headed to theatres. This is possibly because in only a week, the Bollywood film Tiger 3, starring Salman Khan, with Shah Rukh Khan in a pivotal cameo will release as this year’s Deepavali biggie. Considering that it is the Karnataka Rajyotsava week and you are in the mood to watch a Kannada film, here are your latest options. There’s also last week’s Tagaru Palya, starring Nagabhushana and Amrutha Prem, which has opened to decent reviews and box office collections.

Garuda Purana
Directed by Manjunatha B Nagba, who also plays one of the leads in the film, this crime thriller is about a spate of rapes and murders in Karnataka that baffles the investigating team, as the bodies they discover do not match the reports of missing victims. How a bunch of friends then get inadvertently involved in this crime forms the crux of the narrative. The film also stars Santosh Karki, Disha Shetty, Cheluvaraj, Mahendra Gowda, among others.
Basrikatte
Rahul Madhav headlines this horror thriller directed by Vaibhav Gowda, who has also written the script of Basrikatte. The film follows Rahul’s character Vinay, an engineer contracted to build a bridge. This seemingly easy task, though, becomes daunting for Vinay and his family as horrors are unleashed from the water beneath the bridge. Ananya Kashyap, Ashwin Hassan, Bala Rajwadi and KS Sridhar, are also part of the cast.
Crazy Keerthy
This romantic drama has Love Mocktail fame Abhilash in the lead. The film, directed by Balaji Madhavshetty has veteran filmmaker Om Prakash Rao serving as creative director and actor as well. The story of Crazy Keerthy follows a couple, Bhaskar (Abhilash) and Keerthy (Sarika Rao), whose relationship takes a bad turn when Ananya (Risha Gowda), enters their life. Whether or not Bhaskar and Keerthy weather this storm and emerge even stronger in their bond forms the main plot.
Skanda
Ram Pothineni mass action flick directed by Boyapati Sreenu, which had current Telugu film sensation Sreeleela in the lead, released in theatres on September 28, but received mixed reviews and did not work at the box office. The film is now headed to OTT and will be available with a Kannada dubbed version as well.
