Kannada stars Darshan, Sudeep to join politics?

Karnataka's political circles are buzzing with rumours that Darshan, one of the most popular stars of the Kannada film industry, may join politics soon. According to reports, the actor is expected to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday. However, no official confirmation has been given yet.

Darshan has previously shown support for the BJP, having campaigned for the party in the past. His entry into politics could potentially add a new dimension to the state's political landscape, especially when Karnataka is set to go to polls in a few months.

Interestingly, reports also suggest that another Kannada superstar, Sudeep, may also be considering a move into politics and could potentially join the BJP. However, it is unclear what his plans are at this point, and no official confirmation has been given.

It's worth noting that Sudeep and Darshan had a professional fallout a few years ago. In 2017, in a series of tweets, Darshan slammed Sudeep for taking credit for helping him from behind-the-scenes to land his first movie as a lead actor. "Me & Sudeep aren't Friends Anymore. We are just Actors working for Kannada Industry. No more speculations please. That's the end of it," Darshan had tweeted at the height of the controversy stemming from his public fight with Sudeep. 

Both stars have since stayed away from each other. However, it is not clear whether this will have any bearing on their potential political careers.

On the career front, Darshan was last seen in Kranti. Written and directed by V. Harikrishn, the movie was released in cinemas earlier this year. However, it garnered mostly poor reviews, which also impacted its box office performance. Even though many opined that Karanti tanked at the box office, the producers have maintained that it was a profitable venture for them.
