Malayalam superstar Mammootty became nostalgic after recently visiting his college in Kochi. The 71-year-old superstar made a video of his visit to Maharaja’s College and recalled his favourite place on the campus — the college's library.

It seems Mammootty was a devoted reader as a student. He revealed that it was at that library that he fell in love with acting and storytelling. "I never thought I would come to my college to shoot for a movie. After many years, that has also happened. Maharaja’s College library is where Muhammad Kutty, who was not an actor, became familiar with stories and characters and was encouraged to dream," Mammootty said in the video.

Mammootty also browsed through his college magazines revealing pictures of himself from the old days. “Out of curiosity, I looked through some old college magazines in the library. I was shown a black-and-white photo. Perhaps, this is where for the first time my photo was published - in my college magazine. Students there asked me about those times in college. Time changes but the excitement of being in college never change," he added.

The caption below Mammootty's student picture in the magazine reads, "Lives…not acts." He was also the leader of the college drama group.

Born as Muhammad Kutty Panaparambil Ismail, he took the name Mammootty when he started acting in movies. In the early 70s, he made his debut in movies in minor roles and he made his debut as a lead actor with Devalokam in 1979. And the rest is history. Even after over four decades, Mammootty remains a force to reckon with at the box office.

Mammootty is now shooting for his upcoming film Kannur Squad. The film marks the debut of cinematographer Roby Varghese Raj as a director. Besides playing the lead role, Mammootty is also bankrolling the project under his home banner, Mammootty Kampany.

Mammootty is also basking in the success of his recent film Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam. Helmed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, the film is streaming on Netflix.
