Karthi's debut was perhaps the most remarkable among the Tamil actors of his generation. Paruthiveeran, which released in 2007, besides being a critically acclaimed movie, went on to set cash registers ringing as well. The movie was actor-director Ameer's third directorial project after Mounam Pesiyadhe and Raam.

Karthi played the titular role in the rural drama while Priyamani, its female lead, who went on to win National Award for Best Actress for her performance, essayed the role of Muthazhagu. The movie which is set against the backdrop of a village in Madurai revolves around the relationship between their characters.

Apart from the performances of Karthi and Priyamani, Saravanan, Ponvannan, Ganja Karuppu, Sujatha Sivakumar and Sampath Raj, too, played notable roles in the film. Yuvan Shankar Raja's music and Ramji's visuals were also appreciated by critics and viewers alike. Karthi has now took to Twitter to share an emotional note on the occasion of the movie having completed 15 years. He profusely thanked the director, brother and actor Suriya, fans and the media.

He posted, "I feel blessed to have started my acting career with that film. Every movie of mine was designed and tutored by Ameer sir and all the credit goes to him. Of the many lessons learnt, I still treasure the way he taught me to immerse myself and enjoy the work that I do. Thanks to Ameer sir, Gnanavel, Anna, my dear fans and media for ushering me into this beautiful path (sic)."

Gnanavel Raja has produced Paruthiveeran (streaming on YouTube) under Studio Green Production and Raja Mohammad had handled editing for it. Karthi's next film, Muthiah's Viruman, too, was shot in and around the same location where Paruthiveeran was shot.

Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan and PS Mithran's Sardar are other upcoming movies he has in his kitty. Ameer, on the other hand, has started works for his next project, titled Iraivan Miga Periyavan.
