Karthik Subbaraj made heads turn with his debut flick Pizza which was released a decade ago. The horror thriller made movie buffs sit and notice the performer in Vijay Sethupathi apart from a few other talents who garnered appreciation with the movie.
However, it was the director's sophomore project Jigarthanda which cemented his position as a filmmaker in Kollywood, thanks to its commercial and critical success. Siddharth and Lakshmi Menon were announced as the lead roles in the film when the project was announced. But the one who walked away with laurels was Bobby Simha who played a dreaded gangster-turned-actor in it.
Today marks the eighth anniversary of the movie and the filmmaker took to his Twitter page to post a video about the same. But neither his fans nor other movie buffs anticipated that he would come up with a surprise in the video.
The short video comprises a few shots from the film and ends with a glass of mouth-watering jigarthanda (a Madurai-based cold beverage) placed on a table. Suddenly, another glass of the cool drink is also placed adjacent to the first glass, thus hinting at a second part to the film.
Movie buffs are now looking forward to an official announcement on the sequel's cast and crew details. There are rumours that Raghava Lawrence might be playing a crucial character in the second instalment, though it's too early to say.
Jigarthanda (streaming on Disney+ Hotstar) won two National Awards - Best Supporting Actor for Bobby Simha - and Best Editing for Vivek Harshan. The performance of the former, riveting screenplay, background score by Santhosh Narayanan and enjoyable twists and turns were a few positive aspects of the movie which was released in 2014.
