Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj is one of the die-hard fans of Superstar Rajinikanth . And he watched the first show of Rajinikanth's latest release Jailer like millions of other fans worldwide. He seemed to have had quite a blast in cinemas watching his favourite star in action.
"#Jailer Speechless...... Goosebumps ...... Thalaivaaaa on fire in every frame.. @Nelsondilpkumar extraordinary writing & Loved the Humour all thro @anirudhofficial Special blast @sunpictures cast n crew...Hat's off for Theri Massss Thalaivar Padam (sic)," he tweeted. He also wrote "No replacement found" under "Thalaivaaaa."
It seems Karthik has waded into the debate about who's the next star in Tamil cinema to take Rajinikanth's place in Tamil cinema. For years now, a section of the industry has always debated when Rajinikanth's box office supremacy will end. Since the 80s, the star has been a force to reckon with not just in Tamil Nadu, but across the country. Even after 48 years, Rajinikanth remains the biggest draw at the box office and that seems to puzzle many industry insiders.
Ahead of the release of Rajinikath's every new movie, some people bring up the debate, "Who is the next superstar of Tamil cinema?." And Thalapathy Vijay seems to be the frontrunner for that position. However, Vijay has kept a very healthy distance from such debates as he continues to express his admiration for Rajinikanth at every event.
At the trailer launch event, producer Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures addressed the debate with a lot of candour. "When, at 72 years old, producers line up to collaborate with you and you maintain Rajini sir's velocity, charisma, and fan base, then, and only then, can you claim to have taken his place. Until that moment, Rajini sir remains the sole Superstar for the entire Indian film fraternity," Maran said at the event.
Jailer opened to packed houses across the country on Thursday. Written and directed by Nelson, Jailer is also getting positive reviews.
