It was only a while ago that Karthik Subbaraj's Mahaan, which is tipped as an action thriller, was wrapped up. The movie, which brings together Vikram and Dhruv Vikram for the first time, had its title and first look revealed in August. The makers also unveiled a poster reel featuring Vikram, the first look of Dhruv and first single composed by Santhosh Narayanan at regular intervals.
Soorayaatam, the first single, received appreciation from fans of Vikram and other move buffs for the different attempt Santhosh came up with in its music. Later, the team released a few stills of Simran and Vaani Bhojan who play crucial characters in the movie.
It is now heard that the film is likely to skip theatrical release and opt for a direct-to-OTT release. Rumours are rife that the big budget flick produced by SS Lalit Kumar, under the banner of Seven Screen Studio, might have a premiere on Amazon Prime Video. According to a source, Mahaan might release on January on the streaming platform if everything goes well.
Vikram's last outing, Rajesh M Selva's Kadaram Kondan, which had a theatrical release in 2019, is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The actor currently has Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan, Ajay Gnanamuthu's Cobra and Gautham Menon's long-delayed Dhruva Natchathiram in his kitty.
Karthik Subbaraj's previous outing, Jagame Thanthiram, starring Dhanush, too, skipped theatrical release amid various speculations. The gangster flick was finally released directly on Netflix. Mahaan has cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna and editing by Vivek Harshan. Bobby Simha and Sananth, who were seen earlier in Karthik's films, will also be seen in key roles in the project.
