If the buzz on social media is to be believed, Karthi's upcoming film, Japan is based on the life of Tiruvarur Murugan, who was involved in many robberies in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. He was also the brain behind the jewellery theft at a Lalitha Jewellery as well. Murugan was a HIV positive patient and didn't receive proper medical treatment and when the police found him, he was almost on his deathbed.

The Bengaluru Police decided to save his life and after his recovery, the police managed to solve many cases that involved him. However, he died in 2020 due to ill health. Japan is said to be a fictional adaptation from the incidents in his life. Raju Murugan, we hear, wanted to drop the HIV positive aspect in the film, but Karthi asked him to retain it and not tamper with the authenticity of the story.

Karthi's flashy attire in the film, his laid-back attitude and unique hairstyle have left his fans on cloud nine. The team has almost wrapped the shoot, with only 25 days for the complete wrap-up. Anu Emmanuel plays the leading lady. The makers are planning to release the film on Diwali and it looks like the Raju Murugan directorial will clash with Sivakarthikeyan's Ayalaan.

Japan is Karthi's second outing in 2023 after Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 2. The actor played Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan in the film and his performance had won rave reviews.

In the meantime, Karthi is likely to begin the shoot of Kaithi 2. During the promotions of his film, Viruman, Karthi had said, "We will begin shooting of Kaithi 2 in the next year. It will go on floors after Lokesh wraps up his film with Vijay sir (Leo)." There is also a buzz that director Lingusamy is planning a sequel to his hit venture, Paiyaa. The film is likely to have music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and bankrolled by Studio Green.
