Lokesh Kanagaraj's Kaithi (streaming on Disney+ Hotstar), which released in 2019, had opened to unanimous positive response from critics and movie lovers alike. The film, which released around Deepavali festival, went on to become one of the biggest Tamil hits of the year and is considered as one of the best movies in Karthi's career.
The action thriller, which was devoid of a female lead and songs, ended with the possibility of a sequel. Its ending sequence hinted at the comeback of Dilli, the mysterious prisoner played by the actor.
The makers also revealed that they have plans to make a sequel to the movie. But Lokesh then went ahead and joined hands with Vijay to make Master (streaming on Amazon Prime Video), the biggest Tamil hit of 2021. The director is now busy with Kamal Haasan-starrer Vikram which is expected to release around March-April.
In fact, he was supposed to team up again with Vijay for another movie. But since the latter is yet to begin his next project, which will be directed by Vamshi Paidipally, we hear that Lokesh is planning to commence Kaithi 2 after the release of Vikram.
Kaithi 2's story is expected to revolve around the tiff between the characters essayed by Karthi and Harish Uthaman. The movie was recently in the news regarding its release in Japanese. Though it was announced earlier that Ajay Devgn will play the lead in the Hindi remake of Kaithi, there hasn't been any update about the same.
Produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, the background score by Sam CS and action choreography by Anbariv were two aspects which received appreciation from everyone. Narain, Arjun Das, George Maryan and Hareesh Peradi among others stood out for their impressive performances in the movie.
