Sardar, the third outing of Karthi this year, has been carrying good expectations among cinephiles. The first movies of the actor in 2022 - Viruman and Ponniyin Selvan - became hits at the box office, and his fans have been pinning hopes on this one as well.

The project's director PS Mithran, though couldn't meet audience's expectations with Hero, has been revered for his debut flick Irumbu Thirai. The news of Karthi playing dual roles in the movie was another reason for film lovers to look forward to it. The film hit the screens as a Deepavali outing on October 21.

It opened to good response from critics and film lovers, and turned out to be his third box office hit of the year, surpassing Sivakarthikeyan's Prince which was also released on the same day. What stood out in the film was the performance of Karthi in dual roles, its engaging screenplay, a socially relevant theme and some action scenes.

Raashi Khanna and Rajisha Vijayan play female leads in the movie which has music by GV Prakash Kumar. George C Williams and Ruben have handled cinematography and editing respectively for Sardar which has Chunky Panday, Laila and Munishkanth among others essaying key roles in it.

Its story revolves around a publicity-hungry cop who is hell-bent on carving a niche for himself as he has been looked down upon by the society as a traitor's son since his childhood. He tries to track down a huge scam pertaining to a sensational water project, but little did he know that it would take him to his father, a spy who has been living in exile for many years.

One of the fine aspects of Sardar is touching upon an unexplored topic like the ill-effects of bottled water in an entertaining manner, without resorting to preachiness.
