Kartik Aaryan is one of the busiest actors right now in Bollywood. He has been annou ncing films one after the other. Now, there's been a development regarding his movie Aashiqui 3. The highly anticipated project has undergone a substantial change. The love drama is reportedly now called Tu Aashiqui Hai and is scheduled to begin filming later this year. A source was mentioned in a recent Times Now report as claiming, "Tu Aashiqui Hai is the new title for Aashiqui 3."

The film is based on the 1981 movie Basera, starring Shashi Kapoor, Rakhee, and Rekha. The movie will begin production later in the year. The main parts in the film will be portrayed by Triptii Dimri and Kartik, with one additional actress who is yet to be confirmed by the producers. Kartik Aaryan posted the movie poster on Instagram on September 5, 2022, with the caption, "Ab Tere Bin Ji Lenge Hum/ Zeher Zindagi Ka Pi Lenge Hum #Aashiqui3."

In an interview, Kartik stated, "I grew up watching the timeless classic Aashiqui,” and that working on such a film is like a “dream come true” for him. Kartik further mentioned that he "feels privileged yet grateful" for the chance to work with Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt. He further said that he has been a big fan of Anurag Basu’s work and collaborating with him on this project will definitely shape him in many ways.

Anurag Basu, who has directed the third instalment of the Aashiqui franchise, shared, "It’d be my first venture with Kartik Aaryan, who is known for his hard work, dedication, grit and determination and I’m truly looking forward to this one." Basu further said that he aims to carry forward the legacy created by the earlier Aashiqui instalments, which have captured the hearts of fans over the decades.

Although Tu Aashiqui Hai's creators haven't formally acknowledged the film as a Basera remake, the title and suggested inspiration definitely pique interest. Complex emotions and relationships were addressed by Basera and these themes are highly relevant to the Aashiqui franchise. The first movie, Aashiqui, debuted in 1990 and starred Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal, and unexpectedly became a successful musical. Decades later, Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor acted in the follow-up movie, Aashiqui 2, in 2013. Directed by Mohit Suri, Aashiqui 2 also became a superhit.
