Disney+Hotstar is bringing the much-celebrated storytelling sense of Malayalam filmmakers to the small screen. Director Ahammed Khabeer of June fame has helmed the first season of the six-part investigative drama. Billed as a police procedural, the series enjoys the distinction of being the first Malayalam web series. And the show creators seem to have left no stone unturned to give their best shot. The show is headlined by Malayalam cinema's A-listers, including Aju Varghese and Lal.

Kerala Crime Files will debut on Disney+Hostar on June 23.

The latest trailer for the upcoming web series gives a glimpse of what's in the store for the audience. Titled Kerala Crime Files - Shiju, Parayil Veedu, Neendakara, the series seems like a gripping and intense police procedural that delves into the investigation of a mysterious murder in a suburban lodge. With sparse clues and a seemingly unimportant victim, two determined cops, portrayed by Lal and Aju, go on a relentless chase to find justice for the woman from a marginalised background. The series seems to seamlessly combine elements of crime and thriller genres. The series also seems to examine the division and discrimination stemming from social and caste privileges, serving as a biting indictment of a flawed criminal justice system.

With this series, Aju Varghese is seemingly set to break away from his usual comedic roles, providing a refreshing and compelling performance as an honest cop with a strong moral compass.

“Kerala Crime Files is an investigative police procedural. Aju Varghese and Lal sir play the lead roles of the investigating officers. Most of the characters are part of the police team, but there are other familiar artistes who play supporting roles. Close to 70 actors are part of the movie. It’s done on a decent scale too," filmmaker Rahul Riji Nair told OTTPlay earlier.

Rahul is the producer of Kerala Crime Files, which is said to be inspired by true events.
