Next year, Celebrity Cricket League is looking at having fan participation, with 2 people per squad to be selected. There will be a strict selection procedure, but the major criteria for participation is that the candidate should not be a professional cricketer, having represented any district, state, etc. Further details on when registrations will open will be made available shortly.
This development comes at a time when CCL Season 11 began with only 7 teams, what with the Kerala Strikers finally deciding not to be a part of the tournament, after years of no sponsorship and fading interest in the team among fans, given that they’ve rarely gone past the group stage. In fact, over the years, there have been murmurs about financial trouble for the organizers, which CCL founder Vishnu Induri hinted at during the Bengaluru press meet of CCL when he was asked about the social activities they would support with the revenue from the tournament.

In the past, Vishnu said they have supported hundreds of medical procedures of the underprivileged, but right now, they are in the phase of reviving the brand, which he likened to a pressure drop in the cabin of an airplane, where one needs to put on the oxygen mask first, before helping anyone else. “We are now trying to revive CCL and survive ourselves,” he had said. Vishnu had also refused to reveal the league’s valuation worth, after 11 seasons.
CCL Season 11 began on February 8 and will go on till March 2, with the semi-finals and final to be played in Coimbatore. The matches are being live streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.
