When theatres in Tamil Nadu were granted permission to function in the last week of August, movie buffs were quite curious on the number of films which would make it to theatres. Ananda Krishnan's Kodiyil Oruvan, starring Vijay Antony in the lead, was one of the few projects which announced its theatrical release soon after the state government allowed movie halls to operate post the second wave of COVID-19.
The film, which carried good expectations, released on September 17, along with Harbhajan Singh-starrer Friendship. The latter was released on Amazon Prime Video recently. Now, the makers of Kodiyil Oruvan, too, confirmed that the action film will premiere on the OTT platform soon.
One of the producers of the project, Dhananjayan, took to Twitter to share the news with film lovers and fans of Vijay. He tweeted, "#KodiyilOruvan - Coming soon in #AmazonPrime @primevideoIN First SuperHit after the 2nd Lockdown." Apparently, the movie was the first notable Tamil film which drew movie goers to theatres. Aathmika plays the female lead in the film which has Vijay playing the role of a teacher. He himself has edited the movie which has cinematography by NS Uthaya Kumar and music composed by Nivas K Prasanna.
Mahesh Mathew has helmed the action sequences of Kodiyil Oruvan, which has dance choreography by Hari Kiran. The movie's teaser and trailer were released on January and April respectively earlier this year. A few months ago, there have been speculation doing the rounds on a film of Vijay Antony going the OTT way, and many assumed that Kodiyil Oruvan will be a direct-to-OTT release.
Movie buffs are now eagerly waiting for an announcement on the date on which the film will have an official OTT release. The actor has Thamezharasan, Khaki, Agni Siragugal, Pichaikkaran 2 and recently announced Kolai in his kitty. Among these projects, Pichaikkaran 2 carries humongous hype as it marks Vijay's directorial debut as well.
