A few months ago, the makers of Kolai had revealed a still from the movie which featured the principle cast of the film. It resembled stylish photoshoots of leading Hollywood celebs which appear in popular magazines. The team has now come up with its first look.

Vijay Antony, who plays the lead in the movie, appears as an intelligent and inquisitive detective in it. Sporting an all black ensemble, with a hat on his head, he is seen holding a bunch of papers which have rough sketches of a few people.

Radhika Sarathkumar, Murali Sharma, Ritika Singh, Meenakshii Chaudhary, Arjun Chidambaram and Siddhartha Shankar play pivotal characters in the movie which has been directed by Balaji K Kumar of Vidiyum Munn fame. Sivakumar Vijayan has cranked the camera for the movie which has music by Girishh Gopalakrishnan. Selva RK had edited Kolai while K Arusamy was in charge of its art direction.

Mahesh Mathew has helmed action scenes for the project which has costume designing by Shimona Stalin. Billed as a murder mystery, the story of the film happens in an alternate world in Madras. It is said to be inspired by a real life incident that happened in New York in the early 20th century.

Director Balaji had earlier revealed that he has given a new spin to the city of Madras in Kolai. The movie which was shot for more than two months, according to him, has used different lighting patterns to suit the movie's dark genre.

He had also said that the highlight of the project will be the circumstance which makes the protagonist take up an intriguing case. Vijay Antony currently has half-a-dozen films in his kitty, including his directorial debut Pichaikkaran 2.
