Koozhangal, also known as Pebbles, has been grabbing numerous accolades and special mentions. It has been screened at prestigious film festivals. This time, it is officially a participant in the Oscar race for Best International Feature Film from India.

Backed by Nayanthara and Vignesh Sivan of Rowdy Pictures, Koozhangal was helmed by P. S. Vinothraj, which was based on real-life incidents of the director’s life. It is centred on the pursuit of an alcoholic father and his young boy for the mother who ran away to her parents' place to escape her husband’s abuse. The relationship between the father and the son is portrayed during this ordeal.

The exciting news was earlier shared by Vignesh Sivan on social media, who conveyed his joy and pride towards Koozhangal. Take a look:

Before Koozhangal, Tamil film Vetri Maaran’s Visaranai was also an official entry to the Academy Awards five years back. Previously, other language movies from our country were also contending in the Oscars race along with the father-son story. They include another Tamil film and Yogi Babu starrer Mandela, Malayalam film Nayattu and the recently released Vicky Kaushal starrer, Sardhar Udham.

Koozhangal features Chellapandi and Karuththadaiyaan in lead roles as the father and son in the movie.

Talking about the Academy Awards, it has a special entry for non-English films in the Foreign Language Film category. Koozhangal is now competing with other language movies from the world, while representing our country. The awards function is expected to take place on March 27, 2022.
