During a conversation on the show, Karan Johar wondered whether it is easier for male actors in Indian cinema to prance around with young women/actresses. Karan said, “Why are leading men in the industry finding it easy to prance around with girls less than half their age? Is that the truth of life?”

Hearing this, Rani agreed to the certainty in her eyes and said, “It is not the truth of life, but it is the truth of cinema. Not particularly the cinema of the world... but of the Indian cinema.”

Kajol agreed with Rani’s statement and said, “I think it is the truth of society honestly.”

Rani interrupts her and adds, “Films also replicate what is happening in reality.” Kajol continues, “These days older men have younger wives. And nobody raises an eyebrow. And let us be honest. This has been happening since time immemorial. 30-year-old men used to marry 13-year-old girls in history.”

Rani agrees with Kajol and additionally mentions, “But, if we see older women with younger men, then it becomes a... problematic.”

Karan wraps up the conversation that the “Leading men in the industry have a privilege.” Rani corrects Karan and says, “I think it is on us what we want to accept and what we don’t want to accept. So (this problem)… comes to us from a collective thought process that has been told to us since childhood and that is what we have been following as we are not using our brains.”

Kajol and Karan nodded in agreement after hearing Rani’s response.
