In a new interview, Sparsh Shrivastava opened up about Laapataa Ladies becoming India's official entry for the Oscars 2025 and also the compliment he received from the superstar Aamir Khan.

Laapataa Ladies was first screened at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2023. After this, the film was released in theaters in India on March 1, 2024. Days after its theatrical release, Kiran Rao's directorial made its OTT debut on Netflix in April 2024. The film received immense love and was praised for its story, screenplay, and cast performances. Now, on September 23, it was announced that the Aamir Khan-produced film has been chosen as India's official entry to the Oscars 2025. In a new interview, one of the lead actors of the film, Sparsh Shrivastava opened up about the same and also shared the compliment he received from Aamir.
In Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies, Sparsh played the role of Deepak. Speaking to India Today, the actor discussed his time on the film's set and how it was a learning experience for them.
Recalling a sweet compliment from Aamir Khan, Sparsh said that they were at an event, where he was sitting alongside Aamir and Kiran. The film had already been edited by then, and the superstar told Sparsh how he had lifted the character of Deepak from how it was written on paper.
"Honestly, I couldn't believe it at first, but he has spoken about this in other interviews too. He liked my work and that's a great achievement for me. The fact that he felt I could elevate a well-written part has given me the confidence to keep doing that, and making every filmmaker say the same about my work," Sparsh shared.
Reacting to the great news, Sparsh shared that it is just the first step and there's a long journey to be nominated yet. He feels that the film stands a chance. As per him, the type of story that they have, and the performances are top-notch.
"Kiran ma'am and Vikash Nowlakha, our DOP, have made the film so beautifully. It touched many hearts, and now we are all hoping for the best that we can reach the final stage," Sparsh told India Today. He also laughed that the team, however, is already having a fun time discussing what they would wear for the red carpet," he shared.
Meanwhile, on Monday (September 23), the Film Federation of India officially announced the selection of Laapataa Ladies, which triumphed over 29 feature films submitted from different regions and languages of India.
