Laila makes a comeback to Kollywood with Karthi's Sardar after a one-and-a-half decade hiatus

Actress Laila, who played notable roles in some of the hit Kollywood films, is returning to Tamil cinema after a hiatus of 16 years. Ajith-starrer Thirupathi which was directed by Perarasu was her last movie. She was the female lead in Ajith's Dheena which catapulted the latter to stardom.

Bala's acclaimed film Pithamagan starring Vikram and Suriya in lead roles, Jeeva's Ullam Ketkumae and Priya's Kanda Naal Mudhal are a few of her notable movies which made her a favourite among many Tamil film buffs. She is now making a comeback with Mithran's Sardar which has Karthi playing the lead.

According to a report in TOI, Laila plays a significant character in the project and she has already shot for more than two weeks for the film. She will be essaying the role which was initially supposed to be played by Simran. The latter couldn't join the shooting as she got busy with a few other projects, and that's when the makers decided to rope in Laila on board.

Though she bid adieu to her acting career after marriage, she had made small screen appearances as the judge for popular reality show Dance Jodi Dance Juniors and a guest appearance in TV serial Gokulathil Seethai.

Earlier, there was news of Laila making a comeback with Alice, which has Raiza Wilson playing the lead, but the project didn't materialize for a few reasons. Team Sardar is said to have completed a lion's share of its shooting.

Dhilip Subbarayan has choreographed action sequences for the film which has music composed by GV Prakash. Raashi Khanna and Rajisha Vijayan play female leads in the movie, the motion poster of which was unveiled a year ago.
