It was a proud moment for Tamil cinema when the much-awaited 68th National Awards were announced a few days ago. After Soorarai Pottru which fetched five awards under various categories, the movie that stood tall was Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum which was directed by Vasanth.
The film went on to bag three awards - Best Supporting Actress (Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli), Best Editing (Sreekar Prasad) and Best Tamil Film. Lakshmi has now taken to her Twitter page to thank the movie's director Vasanth and posted a few pictures with him.
She tweeted, "Finally finally met my director @itsme_vasanth,congratulated & thanked him for everything! So happy that our little film got 3 national awards. He so deserves it for making a film straight from his heart! Thanks again sir. I'm so overwhelmed! (sic)."
The movie, which was dropped directly on SonyLIV in November 2021, opened to exceptional reviews from the audience. The film was screened at various national and international film festivals after which several critics heaped praise on its screenplay, making and performances of actors. Apart from Lakshmi, the anthology starred Parvathy Thiruvothu and Kalieswari Sreenivasan, too, in lead roles.
Karunakaran, Sunder Ramu and Marimuthu among others essay pivotal characters in the project which has Ilaiyaraaja composing music. Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum, which consists of three stories, revolves around the various hardships which women face in average Indian households.
The movie, which began shooting in 2015, took more than a couple of years to complete owing to a few reasons. Lakshmi was last seen in Payanigal Gavanikkavum which had a direct release on aha Tamil a few months ago, while Vasanth's outing before Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum, Navarasa, also had a direct OTT release. The nine-film anthology was premiered on Netflix.
