Bheeshma Parvam is already among the most awaited Malayalam films this year and the hype for the film has been high since its announcement as it marks the second collaboration between Mammootty and Amal Neerad after Big B .

The latest poster from Bheeshma Parvam is a nod to an iconic scene from the 2007 gangster film, which introduced stylish frames and arguably changed the visual language of Malayalam cinema when it released.

Fans of Big B, which has already developed a cult following, will know the scene – the one where Bilal makes his first appearance at his foster mother’s funeral during a rainy day. The latest poster also shows Bheeshma Parvam’s Michael drenched with what looks like rain in the backdrop. In fact, Amal has used the imagery in several of his films including Sagar Alias Jacky, but this particular one with Mammootty has a lot more recall value.

Bheeshma Parvam, which is set to release on March 3 in theatres worldwide, also has Mammootty playing a gangster – but this time as someone who has given up the world of crime, only to be pulled back to it after his family is threatened.

The movie was shot during the pandemic after the initial plan of doing the sequel of Big B, Bilal, fell through due to the pandemic restrictions. Bilal, which was set to begin just before the nationwide lockdown was declared in 2020, has sequences that required to be shot abroad and this would have been difficult considering the travel restrictions that were in place.

Bheeshma Parvam, meanwhile, is set in the 1980s and was shot extensively in Kochi. The film also has a huge star cast including Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Shine Tom Chacko, Farhaan Faasil, Nedumudi Venu, Nadiya Moidu, Anasuya Bharadwaj and Jinu Joseph. The film’s cinematography is by Anend C Chandran, who cranked the camera for Premam and Helen.
