Latest Kannada OTT releases (March 10 – March 16) to watch on Prime Video, JioHotstar, Netflix, Sony LIV, theatres and more

It is that time of the year, when all roads in Sandalwood lead to Puneeth Rajkumar. As has been tradition since the Power Star’s passing in 2021, Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar has been bringing his films that were home productions – produced by his late mother, Parvathamma Rajkumar – back to theatres for the benefit of fans on the late actor’s birthday. Last year, she’d re-released Jackie, and this time, on the occasion of his 50th birth anniversary, it is the turn of his debut as a leading man.

Here's a look at the Kannada films (original and dubbed), heading to theatres and OTT in the week of March 10 to March 16

Appu

In 2002, 13 years after his last film as a child artiste, Puneeth Rajkumar made his debut as a leading man with Appu, directed by Puri Jagannadh. The romantic action drama, whi ch paired him with debutante Rakshita, was a runaway hit and had a 200-day theatrical run. It was later remade in Telugu as Idiot, in Tamil as Dum and in Bengali as Hero.

The film had Puneeth in the title role, a moniker that stuck, with fans affectionately calling him Appu since then. In the film, he was an aspiring police officer, the son of a constable, who falls in love with the city commissioner’s daughter, a relationship that almost derails his career plans. Can Appu get to his goal and get the gal too?

PonMan

The Malayalam dark comedy featuring Basil Joseph, Saijin Gopu and Lijomol Jose in the lead, is about a small-time gold dealer, who lends bridal jewellery to families that cannot afford such expenditure at one shot, which they have to then pay for with the gift money received during the reception. What happens when one family fails to pay up forms the crux of the story.

Agent

Akhil Akkineni’s last theatrical release, Agent, which came out nearly 2 years ago and was a massive box office failure, has had several aborted attempts to get it on OTT. SonyLIV had picked up the digital streaming rights of the film that also stars Mammootty in a pivotal role, but disputes between the production house and distributors ended in multiple delays. The streamer has announced a new release date, and this time, it looks as if Agent will become available to stream after all.
