In this week (August 19 to August 25), Tamil cinema will be witnessing the releases of a mix of OTT content and theatricals. Here is a list of releases you will be able to catch in the following week to come.
Starring Anna Ben and Soori, Kottukkaali is directed by PS Vinothraj. The film revolves around two families who are preparing for the wedding of their daughter, Meena, and son, Pandi. However, complications arise as Meena falls in love with someone from a lower caste. The film unfolds after the wedding ceremonies are completed, and Meena's seemingly cold demeanour leads her family to believe she is possessed. Sivakarthikeyan is the producer.
Vaazhai is helmed by Mari Selvaraj, who has previously made Karnan, Maamannan and Pariyerum Perumal. Actors Ponvel M, Raghul R, Kalaiyarasan, Nikhila Vimal, J Sathish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, Janaki, and others are part of the cast, with Mari Selvaraj and Divya Mari Selvaraj serving as producers. The technical crew consists of cinematographer Theni Eswar and editor Suriya Pradhaman. Santhosh Narayanan is the composer.
Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan and others. The film is a dystopian drama set in far future, and takes inspiration from Hindu myth Mahabharat and the 10thavatar of Lord Vishnu, Kalki. The film also has cameo appearances by Dulquer Salmaan, Vijay Deverakonda, Mrunal Thakur, SS Rajamouli and others.
Raayan is a gangster action drama written and directed by Dhanush who also starred in the lead role. Set in northern suburbs of Chennai, the film revolves around three brothers who run an eatery and their sister. After one of them kills son of a local gangster, the siblings are on a run to save their lives. Dushara Vijayan, Kalidas Jayaram, Sundeep Kishan, Aparna Balamurali, Selvaraghavan, SJ Suryah, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, and others play supporting characters in this AR Rahman musical.
Uppu Puli Kaaram is an ongoing web series which revolves around an elderly couple who run an eatery and live with their three daughters and a son. The show focusses on their daily lives as each of them have their own issues to tackle with, from a budding romance to workplace harassment. In between this, the elderly couple also have a secret of their own which is related to a famous actor. Four episodes are released every week.
