Mask – ZEE5 via OTTplay Premium (January 9)
Mask is a Tamil heist thriller starring Kavin and Andrea Jeremiah. The film is directed by Vikarnan Ashok in his debut and is overseen by Vetrimaaran. Mask is about a small-time, money-minded detective who crosses paths with a shrewd lady who runs an illegal crime network masquerading as an NGO. Ruhani Sharma, Achyuth Kumar, Archana Chandhoke, George Maryan and others are part of the cast.
Angammal – SunNXT via OTTplay Premium (January 9)
Angammal, headlined by Geetha Kailasam, is a slice-of-life drama film which is directed Vipin Radhakrishnan. It revolves around a free-spirited and independent middle-aged woman in a village who is coerced by her family to wear a saree blouse so as to look presentable in front of her younger son’s would-be in-laws. Also starring Bharani, Saran and others, Angammal is adapted from Perumal Murugan’s short story Kodi Thuni.
Jana Nayagan – Theatres (January 9)
Jana Nayagan is the first big-ticket Tamil film this year to release. Directed by H Vinoth and headlined by Vijay, it marks the star’s farewell film given he had announced his retirement from acting to pursue politics. Jana Nayagan is a remake of Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari and will also feature actors Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Priyamani, Narain, Prakash Raj and others. Expected to be loaded with political undertones, high-octane action sequences and other commercial elements, Jana Nayagan has music by Anirudh Ravichander.
Parasakthi – Theatres (January 10)
Parasakthi is an upcoming Tamil period drama starring Sivakarthikeyan and directed by Sudha Kongara. It features Sreeleela in her Tamil debut, Ravi Mohan as antagonist and Atharvaa. The film marks Sivakarthikeyan’s 25th outing. GV Prakash has scored music for the film. Parasakthi is expected to be around the anti-Hindi agitations that took place in Tamil Nadu in the 60s.
Bigg Boss Tamil Season 9 – JioHotstar via OTTplay Premium (ongoing)
The latest episode of Bigg Boss Tamil season 9 saw the red card eviction of two contestants, VJ Parvathy and Kamurudin. With the Vijay Sethupathi show inching towards the finale, the upcoming episodes will see one more eviction before the finalists reach the last week. So far, Aurora Sinclair, Subiksha, Sabari, Vikkals Vikram, Sandra Amy, Divya and Gana Vinoth are in the show.
LBW – Love Beyond Wicket – JioHotstar via OTTplay Premium (ongoing)
Love Beyond Wicket is a cricket-base d web series starring Vikranth in the lead role. Four episodes of the series have already dropped with new ones coming out every Thursday. LBW is written by Aruna Rakhee and directed by Ganesh Karthikeyan. It is a story about a coach and his underdog team from a struggling cricket academy. The show’s cast includes Sindhu Shyam, Niyathi, Harish, Ayaz Khan, Akshatha, Naveen, Nikhil Nair, and Viswa Mithran, among others.
