From Pizza to Airaa, 5 Tamil horror films that will give you goosebumps

Horror films give you the much-needed adrenaline rush and experiential watching that movie lovers would want. And Tamil cinema is no less capable of generating horror films that have dabbled in various sub-genres within horror. From horror comedies to supernatural horrors and horror thrillers, there are plenty of titles that can be streamed online and OTTplay Premium to watch. Pizza: SunNXT

Pizza marks the directorial debut of Karthik Subbaraj and stars Vijay Sethupathi, Ramya Nambeesan and others. The heist horror film is about a pizza delivery executive who gets trapped in a haunted house during one of his orders. The film became a commercial hit and received positive reviews. Subsequently, a horror franchise was developed after Pizza, with different makers and casts.

Airaa: SonyLIV

Airaa follows the life of a journalist, Yamuna, who goes to her grandmother’s native village only to be haunted by a spirit. On the other hand, there is a man who has just lost his lover and probing recent hauntings. The rest of the film is about how the two of them gets entwined in the case and solve the mystery of the hauntings. Airaa released in 2019 and is directed by KM Sarjun. The film stars Nayanthara, Kalaiyarasan, Yogi Babu, and others.

Nenjam Marappathillai: ZEE5

Nenjam Marappathillai is directed by Selvaraghavan and stars SJ Suryah, Regina Cassandra, Nandita Swetha and others. The film follows a woman who grew up in an orphanage and joins a family to babysit the toddler. However, after realising that the man of the house lusts after her, she is killed, only to come back as a spirit and haunt him.

Whistle: SunNXT

Directed by the JD-Jerry duo, Whistle is a 2003 slasher horror film that is based on the 1998 American film Urban Legend. The film stars Vikramaditya, Gayathri Raguram, Sherin, Vivek, Dhivyadarshini, Livingston, Bhanu Chander, Mayuri, and Vaishnavi and others. Set on a campus, the film follows a series of murders that take place, fashioned after an urban legend. The story consists of several popular urban legends and remains one of the earliest Tamil horror films. D Imman has scored the music for the movie.

Demonte Colony: SunNXT

Demonte Colony is a 2015 horror film written and directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu in his directorial debut. It stars Arulnithi, Ramesh Thilak, Sananth and Abishek Joseph George, among others. The title is inspired by an area in Chennai that is said to be haunted. The film is about four friends who get drunk and visit a haunted mansion. However, after they steal a necklace from the place, supernatural activities become prominent in their vicinity.
