While we are busy tracking the world of superheroes and the streaming world that brings us edgy content that we are hooked to, George Miller just made us realize that he still is the boss of one of the most revered IPs of all time and that he will be relevant even if you discuss fatigue and overdone genre debates around the rest of the trends in cinema. Yes, we are talking about the crazy world of Mad Max. Created and introduced to the fans by Miller in 1979, which is easily over four decades ago, the world of Mad Max is one of the most fascinating experiences we have had with the idea of suspending our disbelief. What felt like a one-trick pony was soon a franchise, and Miller continued to weave the same magic not once but twice, but five times. The fifth, titled Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga, is now up for release this week.
George Miller returns to the big screen with the fifth film in the franchise that he has shaped for over four decades now and continues to do so. Furiosa, for the unversed, was introduced in the 2015 release Mad Max: Fury Road had Charlize Theron play the part and make it iconic. A woman who had her say between the men who were vultures, she stood so strong and had a soft corner for other women who were being oppressed. Her backstory and the hint of it were so fascinating that all of us wanted to know more about what exactly happened to her. Enter Furiosa, a movie that will have Anya Taylor-Joy play the younger version of the part.

Mad Max Movies To Watch Before Furiosa
Mad Max (1979)

Cast: Mel Gibson, Hugh Keays-Byrne, and Joanne Samuel
This is where it all began years ago when George Miller united with Mel Gibson and starred him as the Mad Max Rockatansky, a former police officer who is now a vigilante living in Australia in a post-apocalyptic world. In the world of a dystopian landscape, the suffering intensifies when a biker gang murders his wife and son. This leads Rockatansky on a road of revenge and rage as things take a dramatic turn.
Mad Max 2 (1981)
Length: 1 hour 36 minutes
Cast: Mel Gibson, Bruce Spence, and Emil Minty
While the world thought the 1979 film was just one experiment, we were soon treated with the second film in the franchise. Miller reunited with Mel Gibson, who played the recurring hero in the second film. After seeking revenge, now the struggle is to defend himself from the nomadic tribe. When his aim is to rob an already vulnerable tribe, he instead becomes the leader of the said tribe, saving them from the criminal Outlaws who haunt them.
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985)

Cast: Mel Gibson, Tina Turner, and Bruce Spence
For the third film that came half a decade later, George Miller had a partner in directing the film, George Ogilvie. Tina Turner joins Mel Gibson in the franchise as the leader of a town called Bartertown. Initially, she is reluctant to bring Mad Max into their clan, but soon, when she tells him to do a task and he fulfills it, she brings him in. He is told to infiltrate the energy-producing underworld and kill the man who runs it. The movie changed the tide for the franchise in a way that it kept fans waiting for thirty years only to greenlight three films.
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Cast: Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult
Thirty years later, Miller found his leading man in Tom Hardy and also brought in Charlize Theron as the most fascinating woman cinema has ever created. Furiosa is going against the man whom she once served by joining hands with Mad Max Rockatansky. The journey is about them wanting to save the sex slaves from the grip of the leaders. This story was set to be made in 1987 but never saw the light of day. However, Miller found his new Mad Max in Tom, and Theron was just the cherry on top.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)

Cast: Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and Tom Burke
Set before the events of Fury Road, Furiosa is set to tell the story of the character that was separated from her home. The story is about Furiosa finding her home. The story takes place 15 to 20 years before the last film, and you will be surprised to know the story of what happened with the woman we have been obsessed with for close to a decade now.
