Comedy is a universally favourite genre, and south films have aced it by rooting to its culture and prominence. With a genre blend such as action comedies and crime comedies, there are some interesting south comedy films that you can stream right now.
A Tamil family drama, Kudumbasthan is directed by Rajeshwar Kalisamy in his debut and stars Manikandan in the lead role. The film is set in Coimbatore and explores the life of a middle-class family and its sole bread-winner who loses his job. Kudumbasthan is a comedy drama which shows the realistic situation in the homes of an average Indian family, their struggles, and solutions through a comedic route. Saanve Meghana, R Sundarrajan, Guru Somasundaram, Kudassanad Kanakam, and Nivedita Rajappan among others are part of the cast.
Nunakuzhi is a Malayalam crime comedy film by Jeethu Joseph and features Basil Joseph, Grace Antony, Nikhila Vimal, Siddique, Manoj K Jayan, Baiju Santhosh, Binu Pappu, Saiju Kurup, Aju Varghese and others. Nunakuzhi is about a young entrepreneur whose delightful life comes to a stop after his company gets raided by the IT department, setting a chain of hilarious events.
Sankranthiki Vasthunnam is a Telugu action-comedy film helmed by filmmaker Anil Ravipudi. Starring Venkatesh, Aishwarya Rajesh and Meenakshi Chaudhary in the lead roles. It follows the aftermath of a high-profile kidnap case and top cop who seeks the help of her former boyfriend who is now leading a quiet family life. But the hilarious action ride takes off when his wife too insists on accompanying him to solve the case along with his former flame.
Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare is a Kannada black comedy film starring debutants Prajwal BP, Manjunath Nayaka, Rakesh Rajkumar, Srivatsa and Tejas Jayanna Urs, while it is helmed by newcomer Nithin Krishnamurthy. It revolves around a group of students who reside at a boys' hostel and are alleged to be suspects in a warden's death. The film features cameo appearances by Rishab Shetty, Pawan Kumar, Shine Shetty and Ramya.
Naanum Rowdy Dhaan is Tamil action-comedy film starring Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, RJ Balaji, Parthiben, Radhika Sarathkumar and others. The film revolves around a cop’s son who wants to become a rowdy as he comes across a hearing-impaired woman who wants to seek revenge for her father’s death. The film is directed by Vignesh Shivan.
C.I.D. Moosa is a Malayalam action-comedy film starring Dileep in the titular role. It features the actor as a private sleuth who solves cases with his sworn rival being his brother-in-law who is a police officer. The film is directed by Johny Antony with the ensemble cast including Bhavana, Ashish Vidyarthi, Sharat Saxena, Murali, Harisree Ashokan, Cochin Haneefa, Jagathy Sreekumar, and others.
Panchatanthiram is a crime comedy film helmed by KS Ravikumar and features Kamal Haasan, Jayaram, Ramesh Aravind, Sriman, Yugi Sethu, Simran, Ramya Krishnan, Urvashi, Aishwarya, Sanghavi, Vidhya Venkatesh, Devayani and Nagesh. But he gets blessed with a sudden fortune when money from an unknown source gets deposited in his account.
Upadhyaksha is a Kannada comedy film starring Chikkanna in the lead role, and directed by Anil Kumar. The story of Upadhyaksha is about a villager who refuses to get promoted as president of an organisation he is part of, thanks to his overtly affection to the present head. It is a sequel to 2014 film Adyaksha and also stars Malaika Vasupal, P Ravishankar, Sadhu Kokila, Veena Sundar and Dharmanna Kadur.
Jodi is a Punjabi romantic comedy film directed by Amberdeep Singh and stars Diljit Dosanjh and Nimrat Khaira. The film is set in the 1980s and follows the lives of two artists who want to put the Punjabi folk music on the map. As they set to redefine it, they soon become a celebrated pair, as the film explores their relationship in a romantic comedy setting.
