Notably, this is the film which Ajith Kumar was first called Thala, which became his monicker for a long time before he requested his fans not to use it to address him anymore. Dheena is about the titular character who is a loyal and fearless henchman but stands on the crossroads when his family becomes the target of the same underworld. Vikram Vedha stars Vijay Sethupathi and Madhavan in the lead roles and released in 2017. Directed by Pushkar-Gayathri, the crime thriller revolves around the cat-and-mouse chase between a cop and gangster. It takes inspiration from the Indian folktale Vikram-Betal, and talks about what is right and wrong in morality. Shraddha Srinath, Kathir, Manikandan, Hareesh Peradi form the cast.
Billa 2 is the prequel to the 2007 film Billa, starring Ajith Kumar. Directed by Chakri Toleti, the film is about the origin and rise of David Billa, who from being a refugee went on to become the most feared don and head of the underworld and smuggling. Vidyut Jammwal, Parvathy Omanakuttan, Bruna Abdullah, Yog Japee, Rohit Khurana, Manoj K. Jayan, Sudhanshu Pandey, and others are part of the cast.
Vada Chennai released in 2018 and is directed by Vetrimaaran. Known for its gritty nature, the gangster action drama is set against the backdrop of North Chennai. The film features actor Dhanush, a carrom player who gets drawn into the world of crime, personal vengeance and violence. Exploring the themes of loyalty, betrayal, and survival, one of the talked about points of the film is its non-linear screenplay. Ameer, Samuthirakani, Andrea Jeremiah, Aishwarya Rajesh and others are part of the cast.
Baashha is a 1995 Tamil gangster action drama which features Rajinikanth in the titular role. The film is helmed by Suresh Krissna and is one of the iconic Tamil films. Baashha starts off with Manikkam, an auto driver with humble backdrop who lives with his family. But when events unfold and powerful people get terrified of him, we get to know the mysterious past he has as a feared Mumbai don. Baashha went on to become one of Rajinikanth’s much talked about films.
