Bajrangi Bhaijaan is making headlines again, this time since Nawazuddin Siddiqui talks about the sequel of the film. While Bajrangi Bhaijaan is a feel-good film that tries to promote harmony, Bollywood has classics that revolve around a similar theme. These movies from the 80s and early 90s are still gems that you need to explore already!
We all know about Anand, but another Rajesh Khanna movie that deserves more mention is Safar. It is a film about giving away without expecting in return, something that is evident in the climax of Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Safar is about the act of loving your partner but also letting them go to a place where they would be loved longer. While that place was home for Munni in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, here it was Avinash (Rajesh Khanna) letting the love of his life Neela (Sharmila Tagore) go to a man who can love her longer, Shekhar Kapoor (Feroz Khan).
Filled with great talent (one of Rajesh Khanna's best works), Bawarchi is a movie that runs high on content. The film is one where materialistic pleasure is always secondary and being human is prioritized, with, of course, Khanna’s character Raghu at the centre of the story.
A movie relevant till date, Do Bigha Zamin (based on Rabindra Tagore’s Bengali poem, Dui Bigha Jomi) tells the tale of a family that faces adversities. It is a human tale about a farmer who is dependent on the rains for his livelihood. This story is sure to leave your eyes moist.
A warden from jail is on a mission to reform six hardened criminals. The content speaks for itself, for the transformation is real. Right from the strong storyline to the execution, everything about this movie is beautiful.
A girl fighting for her life meets a man who loves her unconditionally. Nothing fancy about the movie but it still touches you deeply.
