Jagathy Sreekumar is counted among the best comedy artistes, who was a constant presence in Malayalam cinema before a near-fatal accident in 2012. Fans are now excited that one of Malayalam’s most loved actors will be coming back with the film, Vala, as Uncle Lunar. The first glimpse of the upcoming sci-fi Malayalam film was unveiled recently. Dileep headlines this film as Moolamkuzhiyil Sahadevan, the son of a constable, who decides to be a private detective after his dream of becoming an SI goes unrealised. Jagathy plays Sahadevan’s brother-in-law Pitambaran, who are always at odds. Some of the best hilarious scenes in the film are the banter between Sahadevan and Pitambaran.
Another Dileep starrer, which has Jagathy Sreekumar as moneylender Krishnavilasom Bhageerathan Pillai. Dileep plays a small-time thief of the village, who is in love with Bhageerathan Pillai’s daughter Rugmini (Kavya Madhavan). Jagathy won the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor for his performance in Meesa Madhavan and Adoor Gopalakrishnan's acclaimed Nizhalkuthu.
This Ranjith film revolves around a small-time real estate dealer, named Jayaprakash or JP, in Kozhikode. Jagathy plays ‘Golden’ Pappan, a wealthy man, who strikes a deal with JP but that forces him to take a twisted route in life. Prithviraj Sukumaran stars as JP, along with Thilakan, Tini Tom and Rima Kallingal play other key roles in this film.
Easily one of the most popular comedy films from 1990s, Meleparambil Aanveedu narrates the tale of Harikrishnan who ends up marrying a Tamil girl, Pavizham, and brings her to his house as a maid. Jagathy plays Harikrishnan’s elder brother who is also attracted to the new maid and the scenes featuring his attempts to learn Tamil are a hoot. Jayaram and Shobana play the young couple.
A Priyadarshan comedy, Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu features Mohanlal and Sreenivasan in the lead roles. A NRI youth decides to swipe his identity with his driver as he heads to his proposed fiancee’s house., setting of a series of hilarious events. Jagathy Sreekumar is seen as Sardar Krishna Kurup, the girl’s father.
