Prime Video has announced a new Tamil comedy drama web series titled Local Times. The Tamil original will be arriving on the streaming platform on March 13, with the makers releasing the trailer of the series.

Prime Video has rolled out the announcement of its next Tamil original titled Local Times. Featuring a young cast and crew, Local Times will premiere on Prime Video on March 13. Subscribers of OTTplay Premium can upgrade their existing plans with Prime Video to watch Local Times soon.

The cast of Local Times include actors Rishikanth, Abdool Lee, Maurish Dass, Adwitha Arumugam, R. Pandiarajan, Chinni Jayanth, Rini, and Nandhitha Sreekumar among others. The original will consist of seven episodes and is directed by Naveen George Thomas. Local Times is written by Praveen Muthurangan and created by Abbhinav Kastura, along with Praveen Muthurangan, Satwik Gade, Thomas Manuel, and Visvaksen P.

Set against the backdrop of a local weekly newspaper striving to preserve its legacy in a rapidly evolving digital news landscape. The trailer shows a small, local newspaper team Namma Seidhi who strive to uphold journalistic values and want to continue their legacy. Even as they want to do good work, the team realises that in the evolving world, they find it difficult to sustain. Amid navigating through hardships of being a journalist, a local whistle-blower, and resisting acquisition of their publication, Local Times is a comedy drama about a motley group of journalists.

Calling it a ‘rooted, relatable and emotionally resonant story’, Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of Originals, Prime Video India, said, “While the series unfolds within the newsroom of a local weekly newspaper, its core themes of friendship and resilience are universal.”

It marks the directorial debut of Naveen George Thomas, who called the series’ characters, “Our protagonists are not heroes in the conventional sense; they’re flawed, stubborn, and sometimes foolish, but they care deeply. The comical moments come from their desperation, while the emotional warmth comes from the fact that they never abandon each other.”
