This week marks the debut of Lockerbie: A Search For Truth, a limited series that promises to be one of the most profound and heartbreaking of 2025. Based on a true event and starring Colin Firth, the series follows Dr. Jim Swire as he seeks answers after his daughter and 270 others die in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing over the quiet Scottish border town. In India, the series will have its launch on January 2, 2025, on JioCinema (OTTplay Premium).
The show follows Swire and his wife Jane, played by Catherine McCormack, as they seek justice for their daughter's death in an airplane crash. Their cries for assistance go unanswered when they approach Paul Channon (Guy Henry), the UK's transport secretary. In an attempt to unravel the events at Lockerbie, Channon persistently advises Swire to relinquish his independent investigation and entrust the matter to the experts.
Sam Troughton, Ardalan Esmaili, Mark Bonner, Harry Redding, Jemma Carlton, and Selwa Jghalef are all part of the ensemble cast.
The series is based on the real-life events of December 21, 1988, when Pan Am Flight 103 exploded 38 minutes after takeoff above Lockerbie, killing 259 people on board. Eleven more died when the jet crashed into the peaceful Scottish town. The relatives of the victims in the United Kingdom have chosen Dr. Jim Swire (Firth) as their representative following the tragedy and the loss of his daughter. They have banded together to seek answers and fair treatment. Jim sets out on a relentless journey that crosses countries and political boundaries, putting his stability, family, and life at risk while also utterly shattering his faith in the legal system. The truth irrevocably alters Jim's perspective on life. Devoting itself to the events leading up to and following the tragedy, Lockerbie: A Search For Truth tells the personal story of a father, husband, and son who puts his daughter's memory and the unwavering quest for justice and truth at stake.
