Lokah box office collection day 21: Mohanlal set to lose number 1 spot to Kalyani, superhero film to become the highest-grossing Malayalam movie ever

Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra box office day 21: Superstar Mohanlal’s L2 Empuraan leads the current list of highest-grossers in Malayalam, but the position is very much under threat as Lokah continues its rampage at the box office. There is no stopping Kalyani Priyadarshan’s superhero film, as Lokah is just Rs 10 crore shy of becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever.

Lokah to become the highest-grossing Malayalam film

There seems to be little doubt that Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra is set to be the highest-grosser in Malayalam; the question is more about when. The worldwide collection of Lokah film is now at Rs 257 crore, while Empuraan’s total collection stands at Rs 266.81 crore. This means that Lokah needs less than Rs 10 crore to topple Empuraan from the top spot. Empuraan is helmed by actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran and is the second part in the three-part Lucifer franchise.

Even on day 21 (third Wednesday at the box office), the film made Rs 2.10 crore, consistently earning over two crores on working days. With no other Malayalam releases scheduled for the coming Friday, Lokah looks strong heading to its fourth weekend at the box office.

Lokah has already beaten Mohanlal-Tharun Moorthy’s Thudarum and Manjummel Boys, the blockbuster hit of 2024, as it continues its juggernaut at the box office. 

Lokah on OTT

Even as Lokah continues to be a rage across cinema halls, there are reports that Dominic Arun directorial could be making its OTT this month itself. Lokah is expected to make its OTT release on Netflix. However, the Lokah team or the streaming giant has not confirmed this. If the 4-week window is followed, Lokah could land as early as next Thursday or Friday on the platform.

Backed by Dulquer Salmaan, Lokah also features Naslen of Premalu fame, Chandu Salimkumar, Sandy Master and Arun Kurian in key roles. Dulquer also makes a cameo in the film, which is the first part in a five-part superhero franchise.
