Kalyani Priyadarshan will become the first actress to lead the list of highest-grossing Malayalam films if her Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra beats the worldwide collections of L2 Empuraan, starring superstar Mohanlal. Empuraan, which released on March 27, 2025, registered Rs 266.81 crore collections in its lifetime run at the box office, as per the Sacnilk website. Lokah is currently at Rs 252.9 crore, and hence needs a little over Rs 13.91 crore to beat Mohanlal’s much-talk-about film Empuraan, helmed by actor-filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran. 

Lokah has already beaten Manjummel Boys, the blockbuster hit of 2024, that earned Rs 240.5 crore and was the highest-grossing film in Malayalam before Empuraan broke the record. Manjummel Boys is now in the third spot, which was previously held by Thudarum, another thriller which had Mohanlal in the lead role of Benz Shanmugam.

On its 20th day at the box office, Loka made Rs 2.75 crore in India net collections and the total domestic collections are at Rs 124.90 crore. Dominic Arun has helmed Lokah, which also features Naslen, Chandu Salimkumar, and Sandy Master in key roles, along with Dulquer Salmaan and Tovino Thomas in cameos.

Lokah beats other Onam releases hands down

Lokah, which was released in theatres on August 28, 2025, along with Mohanlal’s Hridayapoorvam, went ahead in the race right from day 2. But among the four Onam releases this year, the other two being Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira and Maine Pyar Kiya, only Hridayapoorvam has been in the running. The other two films have fared poorly, with Fahadh Faasil’s Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira surprisingly failing to connect with the audience.
