Lokah Chapter 1: Venu pens open letter to Dulquer Salmaan’s Charlie, Tovino Thomas’ Chathan - more clues for fans to decipher?

Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra is all the rage across the cinema halls, with the Kalyani Priyadarshan-starrer breaking records consistently. Helmed by Dominic Arun, the film is the first of a five-part franchise with Tovino Thomas as Chathan set to lead the second part. Just when fans thought that they had dissected the film and identified every clue, a ‘fan letter’ has surfaced online. It is written by Venu ( character played by Chandu Salimkumar) to Dulquer Salmaan’s Charlie, and Tovino Thomas’ Chathettan. But since anything and everything from Lokah looks intriguing, the latest social media posts also look to be laden with clues for fans to decipher.

Lokah of Charlie, Chathan

In Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra, Chandu Salimkumar appears as Venu, the best friend of Sunny (Naslen) whose paths cross with that of a mysterious woman. They inevitably get dragged into Chandra’s world, where more surprises await them in the form of Charlie (an Odiyan) and Chathan (a goblin). Now, Venu has written long letters to Charlie and Chathan. In his letter to Charlie or our DQ, Venu says that he never thought Odiyan could be so cool, bringing up a reference to Jimmy Uncle. He urges him to smile once in a while, adding that even Odiyan (who can shapeshift) also need friends. Interestingly, Lokah co-writer Santhy Balachandran has commented below Chandu's post, saying, “I am sure this made Odiyan smile”.

Dulquer Salmaan also replied to the post, with a word of advice. “Don’t get dead in mythic superhero crossfire. Lastly. It’s rude to peep into others rooms. Stay safe. Since you don’t like blood an all,” he commented.

Towards the end of Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra, Venu does take a bullet (in this case a knife stab) from inspector Nachiyappa, who has also attained superhuman powers. It is shown that Venu is injured but alive. Does Odiyan’s reply mean that more harm could befall Venu in the upcoming chapters or whether he will turn into a vampire like Chandra (the blood reference).

Why did Chathan hand over keys to Venu?

In his letter to Chathan (a very likable Tovino Thomas), Venu calls him Chathettan (meaning older brother). “There’s something about you that makes me feel we share a special connection. What you placed in my hands is no ordinary object - The keys are safe in my hands—always safe. I treasure them more than anything, and if it comes to it, I’d give my life to protect them. That’s how much they, and you, mean to me,” reads a portion of Venu’s letter that caught our attention.

Before we actually see Tovino Thomas as Chathan in Lokah, the film teases us with a Kutty Chathan key chain. This key chain does get handed over to Venu towards the end. With Venu’s letter, we can assume that this key has a greater relevance to the next chapters in the franchise.

Venu’s letter to Chathan and Charlie has definitely piqued fans’ interest, who are looking forward to the subsequent chapters.
