Lokah Chapter 2: Tovino vs Tovino, with a side of Dulquer

11.11 am on September 27 is when something ‘big’ was supposed to drop on the social media handles of Dulquer Salmaan’s banner. What came, was an apology about a technical glitch, urging fans to stay tuned. It eventually came at 12.12, a good hour later, but the wait was definitely worth it. Dulquer Salmaan, the producer of the Lokah franchise officially announced the start of the next instalment. The announcement promo, titled When legends chill: Michael x Charlie, came with an accompanied post by Dulquer that read, Beyond myths. Beyond legends. A new chapter begins. #LokahChapter2. 

While Chapter 1 ended with the promise ‘Chathanmaar varum’, meaning that the next edition will have Tovino Thomas in the lead, the promo that came out today has a major bit of information. Tovino’s fun-Chathan Michael will be pitted against his not-so-fun and violent brother, who is after Moothon and Michael. This mad and violent brother will, presumably, be Karimkutty Chathan, known for his fierce and unpredictable nature. Michael and his 388 other siblings may not be enough to handle this one, so he seeks Charlie’s (Dulquer) help. Charlie, of course, isn’t too keen in getting involved in Michael’s family affair, but the latter is sure that when push comes to shove, he can count on his ninja buddy. If not, ‘Chathanmaar kondu varum’. 

Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra, meanwhile, is currently sitting pretty as the highest grossing Malayalam film ever. The film is Dominic’s interpretation of Kerala folklore in a modern setting. The tale of the blood-thirsty Kalliyankattu Neeli is what he took up as the first chapter, giving it a superhero twist. What was meant to be a small indie film became a much larger project once Dulquer came on board as producer.

Director Dominic Arun’s plan is a 5-film saga, which was meant to culminate with the Moothon arc, but the makers may shift things around. What is for sure is that there will be a film with Tovino in the lead and another with Dulquer. Kalyani is expected to be a part of these films too. Chapter 1 also starred Naslen Gafoor Chandu Salimkumar, Arun Kurian, Nishant Sagar, Sandy Master, Vijayaraghavan, among others.
