Lokah ending explained: Will Naslen’s Sunny return in Chapter 2 to reunite with Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Chandra?

Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra, the 2025 Malayalam film starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, is the first part in the superhero franchise with fantasy elements. While the superhero narrative and the post-credit scenes are being scrutinized by netizens, Lokah is also about its leading lady Chandra’s lonely existence and her unspoken romantic feelings for Sunny (Naslen). But after Sunny jumps in to save Chandra from the evil Nachiyappa’s attack, we see more than a hint of romance, but they part ways. But is Sunny coming back for Lokah Chapter 2 to reunite with Chandra? Read on to know what happens in the climax of Lokah, written and helmed by Dominic Arun. (Spoilers ahead)

What is the story of Lokah?

Lokah revolves around Chandra (Kalyani Priyadarshan), an enigmatic woman who moves into a city and works night shifts at a cafe. Sunny, a carefree lad who lives with his friends Venu and Naijil in the neighborhood, seeks to find out more about this woman. As Chandra gets entangled in an organ trafficking racket, Sunny comes to her rescue, only to realise that she has superhuman powers. Chandra reveals to him that she is actually Neeli (the yakshi or vampire from Kerala folklore), and has been living for centuries. Sunny also accidentally sees a picture of an old lover in Chandra’s book, who incidentally looks similar to Sunny himself, and had sacrificed himself for her (a coincidence, or do we have a reincarnation tale there too?) Amid this, she also locks horns with the vile cop Nachiyappa (Sandy Master), part of the trafficking ring, who too attains superpowers.

What happens in Lokah climax

In the final showdown between the two, Nachiyappa takes aim at Chandra but Sunny jumps into save her. But quite unexpectedly, Venu (played by a cheeky Chandu Salimkumar) intervenes to rescue Sunny and gets stabbed in the back. Furious, Chandra pulls out the same knife and thrusts it into Nachiyappa’s heart, killing him on the spot.

Chandra and Sunny are then seen having a light-hearted moment when he asks her if he wants to see her, would he be able to call her. Chandra says no, but hugs him in the first scene of showing actual affection.

But the moment is cut abruptly when the injured Venu calls out that he needs urgent medical attention, assuring viewers that he did not die after all. Thus the romance between the two remains unspoken as Chapter 1 comes to an end with post-credit scenes featuring Dulquer Salmaan displaying his sword-wielding skills and Tovino Thomas’ Chathan saying that there are more than 389 siblings who look like him.

As we are promised four more chapters in the Lokah franchise, Chandra and Sunny's relationship could be explored later on though we do not have any confirmation.

Tovino’s Chathan had also handed over a key with the 'kutty chathan' keychain to Venu, saying that he would need it later, hinting that their characters are likely to return in the subsequent parts. The makers of the film, backed by Dulquer Salmaan, have already announced Chapter 2 with Tovino Thomas' Chathan at the centre. The key thus effectively ensures Venu's entry into the next instalment of Lokah, and considering how close they are (Venu literally took the bullet for him), he would have no part in it without Sunny. Well, fingers crossed as we wait for Lokah Chapter 2.
