1001 Nunakal on Sony LIV
The movie received favourable reviews from moviegoers after its direct OTT release in 2022. The filmmaker stated in an interview with OTTplay that the post-Covid period was the best time to release the movie in multiple languages. "I believe that the film gained more recognition as a result of its OTT release. He said, "I had not been sure if the movie had any aspects that could bring large numbers to theatres, and 1001 Nunakal primarily featured newcomers."
The film centres on some Malayali expats who, following the destruction of an apartment block by fire, seek refuge in their friend's house. More friends arrive to the house at the same time as the hosts celebrating their tenth wedding anniversary. During the event, one visitor proposes a game in which couples reveal their most private secrets to their partners. Things rapidly get out of hand with the progression of this game.
The review from OTTplay claims that Thamar told a gripping story in 1001 Nunakal that delves into the fundamentals of marriages. The story moves through realistic problems that couples face without boring the audience with a long, drawn-out narrative.
