Manikandan’s upcoming romantic drama Lover will be arriving at cinemas on February 9
Actor Manikandan, who has done several memorable roles in Tamil cinema, continues to deliver some of the best performances in recent times. However, the actor’s portrayal as labourer Rajakannu in Suriya-starrer Jai Bhim won the hearts of many. The actor during his recent promotion of his upcoming romantic drama Lover recalled his experiences of working with Suriya in this TJ Gnanavel directorial.
Speaking about Suriya, the actor hailed the Jai Bhim star for his contributions towards the education of the tribal community, and called him a gentleman. “He’s (Suriya) such a gentleman. The way he constructs his social image is just brilliant. He goes out of his way to help others in terms of education and financial constraints. He has volunteered and helped over 10000 tribal graduates in Tamil Nadu,” he explained.
For the uninitiated, Jai Bhim revolves around the atrocities faced by a tribal couple and how an advocate comes forward to fight for justice. The film received huge acclaim with Manikandan receiving the Behindwoods Critics Choice Award for Best Actor.
The Good Night-fame actor’s upcoming project Lover is directed by Prabhuram Vyas of the Livin web series fame. The film also stars Sri Gouri Priya of Modern Love Chennai fame as the female lead. The film centres around a toxic relationship and how the couple navigates through struggles that are thrown in their way forms the crux of the film.
Director Prabhuram had earlier revealed that the film is set to be a ‘serious drama with intense emotions’. He also mentioned that Lover will delve into what goes into making a relationship work and portray the dynamics between a couple. He also hinted that the film will be a little more serious with drama rather than a plain romantic film.
While the Tamil version is set to hit the theatres on February 9, the Telugu version of the film titled True Lover will be released on February 16.
Besides the lead cast, Kanna Ravi also plays a key role in the film. Shreyaas Krishna handles the cinematography for the film, while Barath Vikraman is the editor.
