The post-release streaming rights of the upcoming Tamil film Lubber Pandhu have been bagged by Disney+ Hotstar. The film, starring actors Harish Kalyan and Attakathi Dinesh in the lead roles, is all set to have a September release in theatres.
Lubber Pandhu is an upcoming cricket-based film with actors Harish Kalyan and Attakathi Dinesh essaying the male leads. After films like Blue Star and Lal Salaam hitting big screens this year, Lubber Pandhu is the latest film to release in the genre. It will be based on street cricket, which is very popular in India. The trailer of the film will be released on Wednesday evening.
While the makers are planning for a September release in theatres, the post-theatrical streaming rights of Lubber Pandhu have been bagged by Disney+ Hotstar. A theatrical release date is expected to be announced along with the trailer release.
Lubber Pandhu is directed by debutant filmmaker Tamizharasan Pachamuthu. Actors Swaswika and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy will be playing the female leads in the film. The technical crew consists of music composer Sean Roldan, cinematographer Dinesh Purushothaman and G Madan as the editor.
Tamizharasan had earlier revealed that Lubber Pandhu will be a tribute of sorts to late actor and politician Vijayakanth. Dinesh will be playing a fan of the late actor. Tamizharasan also said that the film will have a lot of references to Vijayakanth.
The streaming platform has been introducing web series in Tamil in the recent times. After the ongoing Uppu Puli Kaaram, and limited series Chutney Sambar and My Perfectt Husband, the platform announced the third season of Kanaa Kaanum Kaalangal. It is set to premiere on August 30.
Disney+ Hotstar also served as one of the presenters of the recently released Tamil film Vaazhai. The film is written and directed by Mari Selvaraj and is currently running in theatres.
