Maalik box office report Day 2: Rajkummar Rao's film earns ₹9 crore in two days with slight growth on Day 2 but struggles amid tough competition and low occupancy; Sunday performance remains crucial.

Despite a slight uptick in receipts on its second day, Rajkummar Rao's newest offering, Maalik, is still failing to establish a foothold in theatres. According to figures from trade tracker Sacnilk, the film made ₹5.25 crore on Day 2 after opening with roughly ₹3.75 crore on July 11, bringing its two-day total in India to ₹9 crore.
Marginal growth fails to boost overall outlook
The overall performance of Maalik is still lacklustre, even though the statistics have gone up a little. The film's total Hindi occupancy on Saturday was 18.84%. From 6.40% in the morning shows to 16.95% in the afternoon, 19.14% in the evening, and 32.85% during night concerts, the occupancy increased substantially throughout the day. Even if there seems to be some curiosity among audiences based on the late evening statistics, it hasn't translated into a major rise at the box office just yet.
Numerous variables, such as intense competition from other theatre releases, have affected the film's performance. James Gunn's Superman and Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, which featured Vikrant Massey and Shanaya Kapoor, were both released at the same time as Maalik. And with the success of Hollywood blockbuster Jurassic World Rebirth and Anurag Basu's ensemble drama Metro... In Dino, both of which are currently playing in theatres, Maalik will have to compete for viewers' attention.
Sunday crucial
Rajkummar Rao's first film in the gangster genre, Maalik, is directed by Pulkit. Saurabh Sachdeva, Swanand Kirkire, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Saurabh Shukla, and Manushi Chhillar are among the film's other notable stars. The film has failed to meet industry expectations in its opening weekend, despite early hype about Rao's makeover for the character.
The film's future is currently highly dependent on how well it does on Sunday and the momentum it gains from word of mouth. Maalik needs solid weekday holds or a huge rise in audience interest to stay in competition, given its relatively modest start and challenging box office scene.
